How was TikTok without the Americans?
Just yesterday I was looking through tech news headlines and all that mentioned TikTok were talking about its upcoming shutdown and its alternatives. However, there seemed little to no media coverage on what remained of TikTok. The ban should only affect US users. What would TikTok be like without them?
I don't use TikTok, but I was very much interested in this question from a scientific perspective -- poke a system and see what happens -- and so I thought I would write this post today and ask my non-US friends about it.
Well, it looks like I spoke too soon.
Now what happens? Would the users that fled scurry back and talk about these events? Would some of them decide to remain after finding the asylum they sought in the alternative platforms?
In any case, I personally do not care whether TikTok will be banned for the US in the future, but I sure hope that it happens just to find out what a small (rather large, actually) corner of the internet would be like without the majority of the Americans.
