Enshittifying Generative AI Tools
GenAI seems so convenient these days. There aren't even any ad banners in most of the interfaces... Unfortunately that will likely change very soon.
However, enshittification can go much more than that.
Consider GenAI Engine Optimization (tribute to SEO). Consider paid advertising that causes GenAI output to be biased a certain way just because companies paid the GenAI provider.
We are now growing increasingly reliant on AI. Anything and everything that influences the output of AI will directly influence our input.
This will become a key vulnerability in the society...
I am quite worried. Not because I'm pessimistic and imagining a dystopian outcome. But that I know this outcome will become reality sooner or later. "Any thing that can break, will break" becomes "Anything that can be taken advantage of to turn into profit, will be taken advantage of". And usually, something to these company's advantage will most certainly always be for our disadvantage. We are enslaved under the profit-driven decisions of the many corporates that surrounds us. Corporates that we have no choice but to rely on, just like the AI that society is now gradually accepting more and more.
If AI can influence a teenager to end their own life, then AI can influence people's decisions in so many other dimensions of life. In fact, it is already doing so, without us being fully conscious of it. And that's concerning.
